We are on our way back from the French Quarter. No one really bought much, we are budgeting our money but we did pig out on some Beignets. (thanks Brother Jonathan for hooking us up) The take-away, New Orleans is alive and kickin’. Things are priced for that tourist dollar. But we also saw lots of people doing Tarot Card readings and other things like that. We pretty much stayed away from that and even Bourbon Street. Still we had a good time.

My interview with Sadie Banks. Sadie is a sophomore at Homewood Flossmoor High School and this is her second trip.

PJK: What were your expectations for this trip?

SB: My expectations for this year was that our sleeping arrangements would be worse. I just thought that the Katrina disaster was still in full effect and we would be in the middle of it. It was very nice to see that some parts have been built up, but there are still a lot of places that are just the same.

PJK: So why did you choose to come?

SB: Even though, I thought it would be worst I really wanted to come for the experience. Katrina didn’t happen that long ago, and I have an opportunity to be involved.

PJK: How can G_d be most real for you this week?

SB: I expect that G_d would keep my mind opened and my heart right so that i will be able to do what i have to do in service while I’m here.

PJK: What has been the best part so far?

SB: The best part so far has been the trip down. We really had a lot of fun. And we really bonded. So far all of it has been good, my work “krewe” and our mission site were the best. And the people from Sunnybrook are really easy to talk to.

Thanks Sadie.

As far as mission trips go, everyone gets just a little bit more tired and a little bit more irritable. Pray that our students take advantage of their rest times, become more loving, and gracious toward one another.

Enjoy some group shots while we were in the French Quarter.
